My Go-To Daily Supplements

Updated: May 27

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to other countries and experience delicious, healthy food which has shined a not-so-flattering light on our own American overly processed food habits; habits which not only cause obesity, but sickness and serious health problems for so many. Even for those of us trying to eat a healthy, whole food diet we’re met with hormones, pesticides, antibiotics, and all sorts of chemicals present in our soil and water. Sourcing our food is a full-time job, but unfortunately, necessary.

Twenty years ago I created our HSM smoothie, my “jet fuel” that continues to be my morning jumpstart along with my apple (organic, of course), coffee (organic Lion’s Mane and Chaga) and the following five supplements. I’ve added a link to my shop if you’re interested in giving them a try. They’re also linked in my bio on Instagram @lizhilliardhsm I’d love to hear your thoughts or comments once you’ve tried them or the go-to supplements that work for you!

I would love to say that I’m able to get all my vitamins and minerals from my healthy, whole food diet but unfortunately, and even without eating overly processed food as I age, I need an extra boost of these 5 supplements.

1.Glutathione is a master antioxidant that also includes CoQ10 and PQQ. Glutathione naturally occurs in the body but decreases as we age.  This important antioxidant not only supports energy production in cells but is also important to my cardiovascular health.

2. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize harmful free radicals in the body while playing an important role in keeping my immune system strong.

3. Magnesium not only helps with muscle function and bone health but has also been studied in relation to brain health and cognitive function. I use Magnesium Glycinate in the evening which helps me relax, fall asleep, and stay asleep and Magnesium L-Threonate in the morning for several benefits including enzyme reactions, protein synthesis, glucose control, and muscle and nerve function.

4. Vitamin D is a must and helps with absorption of calcium for good bone health. It helps boost my immune system and is thought to positively impact our mood and mental health as well!

5. Probiotics are essential in aiding our digestion. As I have aged, my digestion has naturally slowed down, but I have seen positive changes by taking a nightly probiotic to keep my gut healthy and happy.
